Travis was born in 1986 and raised in New Orleans, LA. His parents are intelligent and empirically-minded people who taught him that kindness and hard work were a dynamite combination for being successful in both love and life. Travis grew up in a household focused on social gatherings and sharing meals. He hunted with his father and his grandfather and was conscripted into learning how to be self-sufficient and a general handy man. Travis spent much of his childhood reading books and imagining magical places filled with fantastic creatures and quests for knowledge and glory. He learned early that the world was a big place filled with talented and creative people. He learned early that people had lives very different from his own. He learned early that sometimes things don’t work out like you plan.
Travis studied French in high school and college where he majored in French Language and English Writing and Culture with a particular emphasis on social linguistics. In undergrad, he learned that love is more complicated than just finding the right girl and that sometimes it might be a question of finding the right boy. Affairs of the heart are certainly a special kind of knowledge.
He has never stopped reading and continues to consume the written word in every form he can. He proudly associates himself with the label of millennial, despite the often derogatory connotation to that term, and he loves to spend time cooking for his friends and family. He likes to build wooden furniture. He likes growing food in his garden. He likes reading about the esoteric qualities of spiritual pursuits.
In 2014, Travis made a decision to expand his knowledge base and to embark on a new chapter in his life by moving to Portland, OR to study the ancient art of Chinese Medicine and pursue his first graduate degree. He feels like his life was all a long path leading to that decision and to his current form of study.
In the summer of 2015, Travis was engaged to his partner of five years. She’s a teacher and helps him to be the best person he can be. Travis lives in SE Portland with his partner, his dog Neville, and their five chickens.
